Collegewithinreach.com’s “Trends & Data” section will give site visitors a look at timely, useful studies and reports that explore a wide range of college planning topics – and offer food for thought on ways to help strengthen their own planning, saving and investing strategies.
In our first “Trends & Data” offering, we present the results of a new national poll, conducted in February this year by OppenheimerFunds, that examined one of the most fundamental issues of all: the state of the “American dream of college” and what parents are doing to help keep the dream alive for their children.
More than 1,000 American parents nationwide participated in the poll, answering questions on everything from their college hopes for their children, to their views of the value of college, concerns about affordability, and the specific steps they’re taking to help prepare their children for higher education, academically as well as financially.
Our poll showed that the college hopes of American parents are strong indeed. Many factors, including rising costs, turbulent investment markets and low savings, make the dream challenging. But at the same time, parents are doing many of the “right things” to help their kids achieve college and are interested in learning more about effective ways to save and invest.
You can read all the findings here – and get some ideas to support your own dreams too – in our special report, “Preserving the Dream of College: A National Report.”
